Since there are a lot of procedures to follow fully of the Hokkien custom in the process of marriage, and this will cause a higher cost in the payment in this several processes especially for the wedding dinner.  Therefore, the people who have low income may find it hard to follow it, and they will decide to have a simple way __ “Naked Marriage "and do not follow the custom at all.  “Naked marriage” in China, sometimes called "bare marriage", is a form of marriage without the couple having first accumulated a solid financial foundation. Normally it does not include a wedding, a ring, a house, a car or a honeymoon

In other ways, some Hokkien Chinese insist to follow the full process of wedding with the higher payment, due to their concern about their family’s reputation. In Hokkien society, traditional weddings involve a lot of costly ceremonies and relatives and friends.  Therefore, the person who is able to conduct the full process luxuriously, people will think the person is successful and also can provide a good reputation for their family.  However, it might cause a huge financial burden for the people with lower income.

In addition, some Hokkien parents do not agree with their daughter marriage with a man with low income who does not own a car or a house.  Since they hope their daughter will have a good life after marriage with a wealthier man.  Therefore, some couples fail to marry because they did not get the permission of their parents due to the income problem, and they decide to follow what their parents want.

  Hi everyone, my name is Hwang Shean Loo, people usually call me Loo.   I am a 21-years-old student and currently stay in my home town during this "covid-19 period" . My family is a big "Hokkien" family, but now I only stay with my mothers and two sisters.  My whole family and my father's side relatives are the believer of a religion due to our ancestral house is a small temple.   In my point of view, the written document that involves the full process and custom of Hokkien marriage is needed for all Hokkien Chinese to refer.  The “Federation of Hokkien Associations Malaysia '',the main associations for the Hokkien society, need to have research and development for all the marriage’s custom of Hokkien.  They may start to collect the data from different states because the differences between states in customs are smaller compared to the state.  Besides, Fujian China is the origin place of the Hokkien culture, therefore, thay may refer to Fujian’s marriage custom when doing the research.  For the higher cost of marriage, actually this is not necessary to construct a marriage with high payment which follows all the customs of Hokkien.  The parts which will cause higher cost in marriage are the wedding dinner, the angbao for the engagement, the marriage photo and the betrothal gift .  The person can reduce the cost with choosing a...
